Tan Your Mind 2 | Travel Web Series
Tan Your Mind 2 was a travel web series I shot in Thailand for Outpost Magazine in 2017. We travelled from North to South in 21 days of travel and filmed practically the entire time. The idea was to capture the adventure of two Canadian woman exploring Thailand for the first time. We had so many memorable moments on this project. The hosts Jess and Abra were incredible to work with and great on camera. Michael was our awesome field producer and kept us organized and on time.
THE KIT
I knew that my kit needed to be small. We would be moving nearly every single day, there were only 4 of us and I would have to record audio along with shooting. One camera immediately came to mind, the Panasonic GH5. Incredibly powerful for its size, able to shoot 4K in 10Bit 422, up to 60FPS (120FPS in HD clean). I used pocket sized primes, an Olympus 12mm F2.0, the DJI 15mm F1.7, the Olympus 25mm F1.8, and the Lumix 45MM F2.8 Macro. Also brought my Lumix 35-100mm F2.8 for long distance hand held. I didn’t bring a tripod! The IBIS of the GH5 is incredible. I was able to shoot so much handheld as we moved quickly. I also brought the Zhiyun Crane V2 for smooth B-roll work.
For the aerial work, I brought along the DJI Mavic Pro. Having flown the DJI Phantom 4 Pro and Inspire RAW I have to say I was disappointed with the image quality from the Mavic, but at the time it was the most powerful drone for it’s size. So all in all I was able to fit everything, minus the drone, in my LowePro Flipside Sport 20L camera backpack. Not a small feat!
We had a back up body on loan from Panasonic Canada but only used it once when our team split up to film the Lantern Festival (Michael operated the second cam with Jess).
Sadly, Outpost hasn’t finished editing the series 🙁
Special thanks to my good friend Andrew Sheppard for the referral.
