Ryan Mariotti is a Video Strategist based in Northern Ontario. After 15 years as a freelance videographer, he has learned that great video starts well before the camera comes out: understanding the audience, finding the real problem, and building a message that connects it to a solution.
His passion for storytelling started in high school, when he won the Community Pulse Award at Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival in 2006 for his short film Forever GTing.
After graduating with a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Trent University, Ryan entered the world of freelance videography at 21 and quickly gained traction in the budding film industry of Northern Ontario. At 28, he turned his focus to documentaries and produced a series titled The Science in Saving Species at Risk for Ontario Parks in 2015. He has shot extensively for various CBC Doc series (We Are Canada, The Nature of Things), Ontario Parks, and over 20 feature films/series in the North (Slasher, Falls Around Her).
In 2017 he was nominated for the Ontario Arts Council’s Emerging Artist Premier’s Award for Excellence. That same year he travelled to Thailand to shoot a web-series (Tan Your Mind 2) for Outpost Magazine.
In 2018 he shot a music video (Island– Jennifer Holub) nominated for best music video by Northern Ontario Film & Music Awards.
In 2023 he helped film Jane Goodall’s IMAX Reasons for Hope, travelling to Montana and Arizona with Jane, a career highlight.
On the corporate side, Ryan helped launch the water bottle brand BottleFit with a pair of commercials, produced a recruitment video for Northern Ontario School of Medicine University built on practicing family doctors, and created a brand video for Highwork, a Sudbury producer of working-at-heights safety systems. He has also shot underground at a mine on Caterpillar’s electric loaders.
He was a cinematographer on the multi-year documentary AKI, filmed through four seasons with Atikameksheng Anishnawbek. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, has played festivals including Santa Barbara and Qathet, and won a Sun Jury Award in 2026.
And in the past year he has shifted into video strategy, bringing his experience to the decarbonization space, helping clean energy, tech, transport and building companies explain what they do and why it matters. The work is personal for him. He has taken his own home off fossil fuels with solar panels, and heat pumps, with the dream of accelerating our transition away from fossil fuels.
Now Ryan brings that experience to the organizations working toward a cleaner future.
