Into the Fire | Nature of Things

Into the Fire was my first shoot for Nature of Things and was it ever a great adventure! I travelled up to Pickle Lake to meet Federal fire scientist Josh Johnston. Once there, I followed him into the air as we filmed state of the art techniques in monitoring wildfires. He has pioneered the use of infrared cameras to gather real time data and relay that to crews on the ground. We knew there were fires in the area surrounding Pickle Lake but there are never guarantees in this line of work. Luckily, after spending two days with Josh and his team, I captured what I was after. I headed back home with a newfound appreciation for the hard work these scientists undertake.

The footage made it into it’s own segment on CBC online and some of the clips made it into the main episode!
